Dawn's End of the World Bucket List

****UPDATE 2013****

So much for the Mayan's.. we are still here baby!

*************************

2012 - The world as we know it is about to end... it's all over the net! So it must be true!!!

Predictions include any number of exciting and dramatic conclusions... many rivaling the best movies that run after 3am on TNT...and they know drama.

Gamma ray bursts, solar flares, mayan prophecy, biological warfare, zombie-like diseases... well you get the idea... take your pick. I personally favor the world going out zombie-style, so I can step into Milla Jovovich's ever so fashionable Resident Evil shoes. (Super dork bonus points to you - if you know I am referring to the character named Alice!)

Anyway, I have decided to make a list of things I would like to do this year. Things that are as likely to happen as a Zombie-Apocalypse. Enjoy!

Been hiding out in my Bunker.... yeah right.

Well things have been getting "too real" with earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes and other crazy natural disasters. It's been a sad few months all around the planet.

I hate being bummed out so I think the best thing to do is to keep the list rolling on ...better late than never, right? So  here it is my choice for the end of the world bunker.

Terra Vivos is a strange company. They have some really over the top... ok insane... scare tactics in there marketing brochures...

My favorite is the one about poor people rising up and attacking the rich when the dollar becomes worthless. Um wow... how is that for American pride.

You can only stay in these for about a year before you have to come up or eat your pod-sharing neighbors, so I guess the hope is that poor people have really short tempers.

Regardless of how odd the company is, I really like the aesthetic design of the interior.

Week Six: Countdown to D-day with an Artist's Watch...

posted Feb 14, 2011, 7:28 PM by Dawn L. Yılmaz   [ updated Feb 14, 2011, 7:36 PM ]

The first month has gone by like a blur, now so we can keep track of the time time leading up to d-day, it's time to invest in a watch.

So I propose a shopping trip to pick up the very cool limited edition Seiko Spectrum E-Ink watch. It was a concept for years, but they have now created 1000 of these amazing watches.

This is the first watch of it's kind. It re-draws it's entire face in an intricate design corresponding with the current time. That's just darned cool.

Week Five: Sweet, sweet indulgent dessert!

posted Feb 14, 2011, 6:42 PM by Dawn L. Yılmaz   [ updated Jun 16, 2013, 1:57 AM ]

Last week was dinner so let's follow it up with dessert. Anyone who knows me, will tell you I have a thing for crème brulée and champagne... but who doesn't love a good chocolate indulgence every now and then... So I propose a trip to San Diego to Eclipse Chocolat for a fantastic long and late brunch. I have heard their Baked Brie en Croute with blackberry - mustard jus & hasselback potato and Rose Petal-Burnt Caramel Creme Caramel are absolutely sinful.

The world's ending so whose calorie counting! Whoo-hoo!

Week Four: Time to Eat!

posted Feb 14, 2011, 6:17 PM by Dawn L. Yılmaz   [ updated Jun 16, 2013, 1:46 AM ]

Three weeks of running around have made me hungry, so let's get dinner at the new restaurant in Manhattan’s Lincoln Center designed by architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Beautiful surroundings as well as great food, who could ask for anything better.

I love NYC, so this is a great stop our our end-of-the-world tour. Click Here to visit the Lincoln Restorante Site...yum! They had me at Red wine short ribs and truffles.

Week Three: Let's take a good old Fashioned Camping Trip!

Before the world ends, why not see it one last time? Nothing is better than the old all american road trip. I drove from Virginia to Washington state, with my kid sis (much to my mother's objection - your going to end up on the news!!!) and I can tell you nothing brings people together like small spaces and road rage. But of course, since we are going out with a bang, let's take Designers Jianbo Huang & Ting Zhao's C3 Hotel Cube, which is as stylish as it is comfortable!

This amazing little cube is also eco-friendly, so if by chance some hero saves the planet, we won't do any additional damage in the meantime! Click Here for more details.

Week Two: House Party at Andreas's Place... and you are so invited.

Architect Andreas Angelidakis's Hollywood Hand house almost mocks the vanity of its would-be owner, but it's simply irresistible. C'mon look at that view...

So week one on the bucket list... house party and everyone's invited. Let's kick off the last year on planet earth in style! Click Here for for details on the amazing design.
